Thai Massage
Thai massage is often called Thai yoga massage. This is because the practitioner moves a person through a number of stretching positions that are similar to some yoga poses. Having practiced yoga for years, I can verify that after receiving a Thai massage session, it is common to feel as if you just did a gentle, thorough yoga practice.
Unlike for RolfingŪ or at times acupuncture, the person receiving the session remains fully clothed. So, if you are coming for Thai massage wear or bring loose comfortable clothing similar to what you might wear to practice yoga. Thai massage can be done on the treatment table or on a large floor mat that is like a thin futon, in which case you'll be getting down on the floor and getting up at the end of the session. You may schedule a one-hour, ninety minute, or two-hour session.
Before the session I will ask about your health history and flexibility and find out about any areas of concern for you. The exact session you receive will depend upon this information. Thai yoga massage is adaptable to younger people, older people, and those more or less flexible.
During the session I will move you through stretches, massage techniques and movements with you lying on your back, on your side, on your belly, and with you seated. There is a fluid dance-like quality to the movements. As I become familiar with you and you become familiar with Thai massage, the sessions may change to match your deepening flexibility. The end result of each session is greater freedom of movement, a lightness of energy, and a feeling of peaceful equanimity.
